The Hundred Club of Jackson was founded in August 1961.  Its original incorporators were Bob Hearin, Nat Rogers and Emmit Vaughey.  An outstanding group of directors representing the leadership of the Jackson, MS community assisted them.  The Club has had a list of distinguished Jacksonians who have served as president.  A number of these leaders are still represented today within the club membership through sons, sons-in-law or grandsons. 

The stated purpose of The Hundred Club of Jackson is to be the first responder to families of Jackson Police Department and Hinds County Sheriff’s Department law enforcement and fire department personnel killed in the line of duty.  In recent years, the Club has expanded its mission to include considerations of grant requests that support the ongoing efforts of these departments as well as to provide an honorarium for the officers selected as Officer of the Year at our Annual banquet. 

The men and women to whom we provide support risk their lives daily to protect our community from violence, crime, fire, and disaster.  They do this willingly, knowing that risk is part of their jobs.  The community, however, should never dismiss the risk these men and women take, nor their diligence and commitment.  For when a firefighter, police officer or sheriff’s deputy is killed in the line of duty, the ultimate sacrifice has been made. 

The Hundred Club recognizes the debt our community owes these men and women.  It was founded with the sole purpose of honoring that debt.  In the wake of tragedy, the families of these men and women have benefitted not only from our first response, but also from the expertise of the membership in the form of advice and counsel as needed on matters of the law, investments, and financial planning.  In a larger sense, The Hundred Club of Jackson serves as a living memorial to these individuals.  The Club’s activities and programs are a continuing expression of gratitude and support to the members of our protective services, and an ongoing tribute to their sacrifice and selflessness. 

An elected Board of Directors conducts the affairs of the Club, and there is no paid staff.  As of 2021, we are in our 60th year.
